Expunction and Sealing Attorney / In-House Council

Location: San Antonio, TX (Flexible remote work option available)


About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced in house counsel to join the team. The ideal candidate will possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited institution and must hold admission to at least one jurisdiction. Preferred qualifications include admission to the Texas, Florida, Indiana, or Illinois State Bar.

The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 3 years of attorney experience, with a strong emphasis on criminal justice matters. An ideal background includes work within court settings, district/county attorney or court clerk offices, legal aid organizations, or criminal defense practice.

Expertise in expunction and sealing laws and procedures is essential, reflecting a deep understanding of the legal intricacies involved.

The selected candidate will manage escalated situations in which customers encounter challenges with specific court procedures. Approval of templates, Petitions, and motions, as well as devising innovative solutions to guide pro se litigants through the court system compliantly, are among the responsibilities.

Key Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

  • Profound familiarity with expunction and sealing laws and procedures.

  • Advising colleagues on effective communication strategies when engaging with government entities such as clerks, District Attorneys (DAs), County Attorneys (CAs), court coordinators, etc.
  • Developing templates and standardizing response language for customers.
  • Managing escalations in cases where customers encounter challenges within specific court processes.
  • Reviewing and granting approval for templates, Petitions, and motions.
  • Devising innovative solutions to assist pro se litigants in navigating the court system while adhering to regulations.
