Title: Database Engineer III – Oracle SME

Location: Must be in Texas and willing to come onsite as needed.

Perm or Contract: 6-month CTH

 

 

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Senior Oracle Database Developer and DBA with deep expertise in Oracle environments and a strong background in automation, performance tuning, and platform reliability. This is a critical, hands-on technical role supporting the stability, modernization, and gradual reduction of Oracle systems as part of a long-term cloud transformation strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as our Oracle subject-matter expert (SME), guiding the team through optimization, migration, and potential decommissioning efforts.
  • Design and implement automation for Oracle installation, patching, upgrades, and ongoing system maintenance using Ansible and shell scripting.
  • Tune performance of Oracle databases and applications in a complex environment.
  • Contribute to encryption and security implementation efforts across Oracle platforms.
  • Support and maintain Oracle systems currently running on AIX, while contributing to evaluations of potential future migrations to Linux/RHEL.
  • Build, troubleshoot, and optimize Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) solutions to improve our monitoring environment.
  • Act as the primary escalation point and participate in an on-call rotation every five weeks.
  • Collaborate with the lifecycle management, monitoring, and security teams to ensure health, compliance, and observability of critical systems.

 

Must Haves:
  • 10+ years of experience managing and optimizing Oracle environments in enterprise settings.
  • Adept understanding and execution of PL/SQL development in professional settings, at-scale.
  • Advanced expertise with Ansible and shell scripting for automation.
  • Proven success in performance tuning, encryption, patching, and lifecycle management of Oracle systems.
  • Experience with Oracle monitoring and OEM tools; ability to build OEM from the ground up.
  • Strong communicator capable of bridging technical details with broader business objectives.
  • Experience supporting critical production systems with a high degree of reliability and accountability.

 

Nice-to-Haves:
  • Certifications, such as Oracle Professional/Master, DataStax Administrator, Enterprise DB Postgres
  • Exposure to cloud migration projects involving Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience working in hybrid cloud/on-prem environments.
  • Familiarity with reducing legacy Oracle footprints in favor of SaaS or modern cloud-native solutions.
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
